Free AI Text Detector.
Paste any passage and get a 0 to 100 AI likelihood reading with a plain-English verdict. Works on essays, articles, emails and reports.
Scores 40 to 69 are inconclusive. Never punish on a score alone.
A general-purpose reading for any prose
This is the general instrument: where the ChatGPT detector and essay detector pages speak to specific situations, this page is for any continuous prose you want a reading on. Forum answers that feel too smooth. A freelancer’s deliverable that arrived suspiciously fast. A product review with no fingerprints of actual use. Paste the text, get the dial, read the verdict band.
Getting a reliable reading
Text detection is a statistics game, and statistics need sample size. The floor here is 120 characters, but readings stabilize around 200 words and keep improving up to the 6,000-character scan limit. Continuous prose works best. Bullet lists, code, tables and poetry are structurally unusual, so their scores swing wider; if a document mixes prose and lists, scan the prose paragraphs on their own for the cleanest signal. Longer documents are best checked in sections, which has a bonus: you see which parts of the document read machine written instead of averaging everything into one number.
A 3,000-word report scanned in four chunks tells you more than one blended score. Mixed authorship is common: a human introduction, a machine-drafted middle, a human conclusion. The section pattern is the story.
Reading the three bands
Below 40, the text reads human: varied rhythm, uneven sentence lengths, the small irregularities statistical models associate with people. Above 70, the text reads machine written, and the higher the score the stronger the pattern. Between 40 and 69 the honest answer is that the instrument cannot tell, which happens with edited AI text, formulaic human writing and short samples. We print that band on the dial because pretending it does not exist is how people get hurt. What kinds of text work best?
Continuous prose of 200 words or more: essays, articles, emails, reports, cover letters. Lists, code, poetry and very short snippets carry weak signal and score less reliably.
What languages does it support?
English is the primary target and gives the most reliable readings. Other major languages often work, but treat non-English scores with extra caution and a wider inconclusive band.
Why did the same text get a different score twice?
Minor variation can occur when text sits near a decision boundary. A swing inside one verdict band is normal. If a text flips between bands, treat it as inconclusive: that is the honest reading.
Can I check a whole document?
Paste it in sections of up to 6,000 characters. Scoring section by section is actually more informative: it shows you which parts read as machine written and which read as human.
